I’m sure you’ve heard of the MCAT, the SAT, and LSAT. These acronyms stand for Medical College Admission Test, Scholastic Assessment Test, and Law School Admission Test respectively. The AMCAT stands for American Medical College Admission Test as it is an admission exam to evaluate students competency in English and math as well as interpersonal skills such as leadership and teamwork. The AMCAT is sponsored by Association of American Medical Colleges which helps over 400 medical schools assess applicants to the U.S., Canadian, and Caribbean medical schools. It consists of three sections: quantitative reasoning (75 minutes), verbal reasoning (75 minutes), and analytic writing assessment (120 minutes). The AMCAT is designed to measure math, economics, reasoning, English, and reading abilities. The minimum requirement for each graduate school is set by the medical school itself. This is why the AMCAT scores are not the same for students who apply to different schools. Each medical school sets specific requirements that they want their applicants to meet. This primary requirement includes the minimum scores on the AMCAT section 1 (Quantitative), section 2 (Verbal), and section 3 (Analytical Writing Assessment) but also other variables such as GPA which is calculated by your college or university's Registrar's Office after you've finished your degree. Another variable is the MCAT which is the Medical College Admission Test, it could be added or not. The MCAT is a standardized exam for medical schools designed to test applicants competency in the biological and physical sciences and in English and writing. It consists of four sections: physical sciences (52 minutes), verbal reasoning (43 minutes), biological sciences (52 minutes), and an optional essay section (12 minutes). Both of these tests are given around March, June, September, and November by Pearson VUE which is a global leader in computer-based testing. They give all of these tests online or at their centers around the world. You cannot find information about scores on their website but you can find information about registration. You can take the AMCAT either online or at a Pearson VUE center. If you take it online, there are three available times: 7:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 5:00 PM from Monday to Thursday. If you take it at one of their centers, there are various days and hours that you can go to. Just make sure that the scheduled time for your test does not conflict with any of your class times because you will be needing them to attend classes on your scheduled test day. The AMCAT is rarely taken by students outside of the United States and Canada. If you live in the United Kingdom, Australia, India, New Zealand, and Ireland than you cannot take this test unless you obtain a mobility waiver and obtain a visa to study medicine.
